Weimaraner

History/Origin
Said to have existed since the 17th century, it was not until the 19th century that Weimaraner gained its rightful place in the dog world. It was bred mainly as a 'gundog', utilized for hunting.

Because of the owners' need to adhere to stricter rules at that time, Weimaraner is meant to mingle with the people at home. This eventually resulted to a sporting dog that longs to be around humans, but deteriorates quickly when kenneled. Its special ability that is widely utilized during those times that it was meant for hunting was to target its prey's sensitive part and pin it down.

Description
Weimaraner is often referred to as the 'gray ghost' or 'silver ghost' because of its appearance. It is almost always colored in silver-gray with a sleek, slim body that measures around 23 to 27 inches. Its short, usually gray-colored coat and distinctive pair of eyes elevates its level to the regal standard. Like most of the parts of its body, its nose is in grayish tan. Some parts of its body have very thin layers of fur, thus adapting either the color flesh or pink. Rumors have it that a long-haired species is also existent although this has not yet been accepted as a defined member of its breed.

Temperament
As a sporting dog, Weimaraner is a strong and fast, but can be adapted as a household pet with a little bit of training. It is active by nature and welcomes games and exercise. It is explosive, especially the young pup, and would be an easy suspect whenever you see a furniture or anything in your garden that has been munched on.

When its hunting roots come to play, Weimaraner could pose a big threat to smaller pets because it will certainly chase and to an extent, kill any intruder that comes to its territory. This wildness, however, can easily be tamed with enough patience and an appropriate training. It can be taught to behave around other species to pass the standards of a house pet. Moreover, Weimaraner is loyal and loves to mingle with its owner.
