Tibetan Spaniel
History/Origin
The Tibetan Spaniel is believed to have originated from the mountains of Himalaya in Tibet. It is a monastery dog, also popularly known by the tag 'little lion', that is widely used countrywide presented as a valuable gift to neighboring countries practicing Buddhist faith like Japan and China. In return, more dogs of the same kind generated in the whole of Tibet and only then the appearance of the reliable watchdog has been altered.
The modern-day Tibetan Spaniel possessed several characteristics that are traced back from Japan's Chin as well as Pekingese type. This breed, which is bred from China, is considered to be more Tibetan than others, characterized by a pair of short muzzles. It is also better-looking than the earlier ones.
Description
The Tibetan Spaniel is considerably small with a not-so-proportioned body. It is usually short in height and has an elongated body especially from the shoulders down to the tail. Its features are cute, nevertheless, almost the same as that of the Pekingese. Only this breed has longer faces, less profuse coats, and has no extra skin around their eyes. It has a nice, small feet, while its coats, which may come in varied colors, lie naturally beautiful. Generally, it is a good-looking dog who is often seen participating in dog shows.
Temperament
Its joyful and perky temperament makes the Tibetan Spaniel excellent pet dog especially for families with little tykes. It is sweet, loves the company of little children, and is a perfect companion. This breed also has above-average intelligence and an assertiveness that borders to being choosy with the people in its environment. It does not like being around strangers or strange happenings. Otherwise, it will bark persistently. Tibetan Spaniel has both the eye and the sensitivity that makes it a perfect watch dog. It can see beyond far distances and is very much alert when something is unusual. Its tireless barking, especially when strangers are abound, will keep anyone on guard. This dog is very loyal, too and since it is said to have come from the mountains, it sometimes displays its ancient love for heights.
