History/Origin
Among the other breeds, the Rottweiler is among the few whose history can be traced to the time of the ancient Romans. Back then, these dogs were brought along to help herd the Romans cattle that provide meat for the soldiers' food supply. The dogs were said to have been predominantly bred in the area of Rottweil, which was a small region that was part of the vast Roman Empire.

Soon, these dogs not only helped tend the herd, but also protect cattle from wild animals and passing robbers. Legend tells of a tale where the purse of a merchant that was placed around the a Rottweiler's neck for safe-keeping.
However, during the late 19th century, Rottweiler breeds declined drastically. It was only due to the need for guard dogs that contributed to the renewed interest in this breed. Because of its strength and intelligence, this dog was used by military personnel during wars.

Description
The Rottweiler is easily distinguished with its clear markings on its muzzle, chest, cheeks, eyebrows, and legs. They have markings on their chest that form two triangles that are upside-down. Each of the toe should carry a mark that looks like a pencil, and have a tan tail.

The eyes of a Rottweiler must have a dark color, with calm, alert, and intelligent features. They also have small, droopy ears that should lie flat on the head. These dogs have a coat in medium length. The males stand at 61-68 cm, and the females at 56-63 cm. These breed also has an average weight of 50kg for the males and around 42 kg for the females.

Temperament
If well-trained and housebroken, a Rottweiler is known to be a social and friendly animal that takes good care of its masters. On the other hand, an ill-trained one can prove to be dangerous to children. These dogs are ideally made into attack dogs, and they are quick learners. These bred are also known to be pleasant and caring if in a good mood.

They love to play games that stimulate their mental abilities and are adaptable to different situations. However, the Rottweilers can be stubborn and strong-willed especially when they just came from their sleep.

Like other animals, this breed thrives on gaining attention and affection from their masters, and are pleased by being praised. If they are neglected, the Rottweiler would use any means necessary to get attention – even resulting in acting strangely or behaving badly.
