Flat Coated Retriever
History/Origin The Flat Coated Retrievers are one of the many types of this line of breed. The Flat Coated Retrievers became a popular breed in the middle of the 19th century in England. As a favored dog for most gamekeepers, its ancestry was deemed to come from the imported dog breeds in Newfoundland and North America. During the final days of the second World War, only few Flat Coated Retrievers survived the tragedy. Fortunately in 1960, breeding of the Flat Coated Retrievers was revived bringing the fame of the said breed. Description Temperament This dog breed is indeed flexible because it is well suited for both indoors and outdoors because of its being lovable, caring, high-spirited and energetic. The Flat Coated Retriever loves to run freely and fast either by itself, with its owners, or with other dogs. The best trait of the Flat Coated Retriever is its being highly sociable and amiable with other dog breeds and house pets. Unfortunately, healthy looking as it is , Flat Coated Retrievers are susceptible to the breeds' common disease, which is cancer. Owners should be aware of these if they plan to keep one. Aside from cancer, this breed is also occasionally susceptible to diabetes, epilepsy, and some hereditary diseases such as luxating patella, glaucoma, and hip dysplesia. |
