History/Origin
There is no established history and origin of the English Springer Spaniel. It came through many claims of speculations that it might have come from China earlier before it appeared in England.
Some say that the word spaniel came from the Spanish term "espagnol" while the French thought that the breed originated from them because of the word "espanir", which means flatten out. Other claims are from the Italian. They say that the Italian name for the Piedmontes Spaniel is Spinone, which is a hunter that seeks and retrieves its find.

Other speculation is the belief that the breed was brought by the Romans to England in trade routes from the East with Spaniels that were short-faced, resembling the Pekingese, Pugs, Shih Tsus, the Japanese Chins, Tibetan Spaniels, and many other of the sporting kinds of dogs. So, it was concluded, that today's English Springer Spaniel came from these Spaniels. Later in 1902, it was registered in the English Kennel Cub, and in the American Kennel Club in 1927, thus establishing records of English beginnings.
