Dachshund (Long-haired)
History/Origin
The breed of the Dachshund Long-haired dog can be traced way
back to the Ancient Egypt civilization where illustrations of short-legged
hunting dogs were engraved on the walls. But according to current animal
books, the Dachshunds were favored pets of the royal courts in Europe
such as the court of Queen Victoria. The genuine German Dachsunds are
said to be bigger than today's breed, and they were best known for their
hunting and sniffing abilities.
Description
Dachshund Long-haired is one of the three varieties of Dachsunds in the
world of canines today. It has a short, elongated, well-toned body. Aside
from that, this type possesses long silky, shaggy furcoat, which makes
it cuter, more elegant, and stylish. The shades of its furcoat come in
a wide range of common hues such as black, dark-brown, mocha, gray, and
dark blue. This dog is popular for its very broad ears. They hang all
the way to its cheeks. The expressive eyes of a Dachshund are oval-shaped
and dark-colored, which are usually black, dark brown or dark red. What
makes it distinct from other Dachshunds is its elongated muscular body,
short height, and long convex head. Dachshund Long-haired is known to
be curious, observant, and highly intelligent.
Temperament
Dachshund Long-haired is a mischievous dog breed. Like all other Dachshunds,
it is proud and stubborn. It does not follow its master or trainer immediately.
Because of this fact, some owners are having difficulties managing them.
It is imperative that owners learn to train these creatures in such a
way that they would not be too harsh or hard on them because the breed
has the tendency to be bull-headed. That is why even though the Dachshund
Long-haired is tamer and more composed compared to other Dachshunds, this
type of dog is quite difficult to train.
This breed of dog is best suited for owners who are very patient and
considerate. Dachshund Long-haired loves to play frisbees and other dog
games. When with other dogs, the Dachshund Long-haired acts proud and
irritable, and oftentimes jealous towards its fellow canine. Just like
any dog, Dachshund Long-haired requires regular grooming and proper care
to be presentable and healthy. Since this bree have long coats, it would
be best if the owner will use mild dog shampoo and dog soap to keep its
coat smooth and glossy. It is prone to being lethargic and lazy, which
puts it in a great health risk. Regular exercise can help this breed to
prevent sickness. Excessive laziness could cause the dog to be overweight,
can acquire spinal disc-related diseases.
