History/Origin
The Chihuahua’'s vivid origin is said to date back to the fifth century. It was during the time of the Mayan Civilization, where small dogs with features similar to the Chihuahua were found in the pyramids in Yucatan. It was found that the Techichis were bred and kept as pets of wealthy citizens. The Techechi was a little dog of high religious significance to the ancient Aztec and Toltec societies. Before, tiny dogs were burned along with the corpses because it was believed that the dead person’'s sins can be passed on to the dog to appease the gods. In this way, the dead person could go on to the afterlife. Soon, the Techichi seem to have disappeared. Some believe that today's Chihuahua Smooth Coat is descended from a hairless little dog originated in Asia, and the Techichi, since there are some evidences that early Chinese practiced dwarfing of plants and animals.

However, some think that latter-day Chihuahua Smooth Coat descended from the Techichi breed mixed with other small dogs from Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. It was then named after the Mexican state where it was exported from. Initially brought to the United States in 1800's, Chihuahuas were exhibited in 1901 and soon recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1904. Today the Chihuahua enjoys immense fame and is a greatly cherished pet anywhere around the world.

Description
Chihuahua Smooth Coat is popular for being the littlest of canine with a head shaped like an apple and large upright ears. While the Chihuahua is covered with very thin hair, some have a heavy thick coat. This small canine comes in different colors: from all-blacks to all-whites, spotted, fawn or tan, chocolate, gray to silver, and sometimes it even comes in tricolor.

Temperament
The Chihuahua is likely to get real close with a few people. It is naturally vivacious, nosy, smart, and demonstratively loving towards its master or mistress. But to strangers, the Chihuahua Smooth Coat can be nervous and even possibly nip at unfamiliar people.

The breed needs to be mingled at the onset or it will not be comfortable in new surroundings and with other dogs around, although it will love having other Chihuahuas around to form a pack. Regarding around children, it is not advisable to have a Chihuahua being with children whom it is not familiar with. This small dog is keenly watchful of its territory, a suitable watch dog, despite the fact that some people find the shrill barking too much. The Chihuahua Smooth Coat is perfect for people living in small apartments.
