Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
History/Origin
Any earlier records in the origin of the Cavalier Prince Charles are all subjects of unsolicited speculations. Despite the fact that there were no written sources or proof in black and white, many pet lovers believe that such breed existed way back in the 13th century when the western and the eastern world met to exchange their trade. Early paintings and portraits of elite people belonging to the royal family showed imprints of the presence of the Prince Charles Spaniel. In the mentioned canvasses were numerous Spaniels near the feet of famous figures like the Royal Sovereigns, King Philip of Spain and his dear wife, and Queen Mary 1.
During the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1, her subjects created a catalogue that displayed images of all types of canine breeds that existed during her time. In the said catalogue, an essay described the essence of toy dogs serving as companions of ladies in the court. The popular dog breed changed its name from Prince Charles Spaniel to Cavalier Prince Charles in the advent of the 20th century. The said breed was registered right after the Prince Charles Cruft's Dog Show in 1926. The old class of the Spaniel displayed on the show's catalogue described the breed as a long face canine with a little, cute blotch on the heart of its flat skull. In 1928, pet lovers established a prestigious organisation for the Cavalier Prince Charles dog breed.
