Border Collie
History/Origin Even from before, the Border Collie is already seen as a highly trainable breed and is considered as a great competition dog. Today, this collie can serve effectively as a bomb detection and narcotics dog. It also frequently participates in skill and obedience competitions. Description Generally, though, the Border Collie is of medium built, with the adult weighing around 23 kilograms. Height is around 52 cm for the male and 50 cm for the female. The head features a well-rounded dome with a distinctive top. Its medium-length muzzle narrows and gives way to a black nose and its oval-shaped eyes are commonly dark brown in color. The tail is low and is, at times, upright when it gets excited. Unlike other sheepherding dogs, this collie has a generally smooth body coat. Coat colors come in a combination of different colors such as white and red, black and gray, and plain black; its white-colored coat is usually not dominant. Its hair on its forelegs, ears, and face are also short and smooth. Bred for its intelligence and working ability, the Border Collie quickly moves at a stooped, crouch-like position. Temperament Outdoors, this canine proves its worth as a physically hardy animal. It is able to run over rough country for prolonged periods of time. However, it is advisable to check its feet and coat and remove any dirt and debris after staying outdoors. Being energetic and intelligent also makes it an excellent family companion. As such, a bored Border Collie definitely will not make for a good family pet confined merely indoors, as it will run over the household just to find something to do. |
