Australian Silky TerrierHistory/Origin During a Royal Easter program in Sydney, documented events show that the silky-coated Australian Terrier was first seen in 1902. Even Stud book registration strictly requires careful examination by a judge, only so they could identify Sydney Silkies either as Australian Terrier or Yorkshire Terrier. But when the canine council called 20th Century finally enacted a provision, crossbreeding practices were soon terminated. In 1955, the Australian breed was officially named as the Australian Silky Terrier. Description Its fur coat is approximately six inches in length, and never touches the floor. The Australian Silky Terrier is born with a long black, silky, shiny fur coat, but more often than not, this black fur coat does evolve into different shades and markings of dark blue, fierce red, and tan. The Australian Silky Terrier's body is significantly longer than its height and its body build ranges from small to relatively medium, height ranging from 9 to 10 inches, and weight ranging from 8 to 11 pounds. Also, this breed's legs are almost always associated to a cat's due to their slenderness and agility. Temperament It is very amusing that Australian Silky Terrier's senses are very keen that little movement makes them jumpy and curious. Since this line of breed is very smart and quick to learn, owners are encouraged to train them early to make these pets obedient and well-behaved. Just so you know, Australian Silky Terrier is very curious diggers, so this behavior should be controlled through thorough training by their owners. |
